Why We Expanded Our Northern Virginia Fencing Service

The Fredericksburg area keeps growing, with new neighborhoods, new homes and new businesses. Most of those properties need a fence at some point, for privacy, a dog, a pool or a clear property line.

So we brought our fence design and installation work north. You get the same materials, the same process and the same family-owned company that has served Central Virginia for more than 20 years. Our Northern Virginia fencing work now reaches Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Culpeper, Woodbridge and more. See every town on our Northern Virginia service area page.

Northern Virginia Fence Installation: What We Build

We install four main fence types in the region, and each one fits a different job.

  • Wood fences: custom built on site, with a natural look and a lower upfront cost than vinyl.
  • Vinyl fences: low-maintenance privacy that never needs stain, sealer or paint.
  • Aluminum fences: an open, ornamental look that won’t rust, popular around pools and front yards.
  • Chain link fences: a durable, cost-effective choice for dog runs, big backyards and commercial lots.

If privacy is the goal, our privacy fences come in wood or vinyl with no gaps between boards. We also build matching gates as part of your fence project, so the whole line looks like one design.

Not sure which material fits your Northern Virginia fence installation? Our guide to the pros and cons of each fence type compares them side by side.

A Recent Fredericksburg Fence Project

Our Northern Virginia fence installation work already includes this two-tone vinyl privacy fence in Fredericksburg. It pairs white posts and rails with tan panels that match the home’s siding and trim. We planned the layout so the colors meet in clean lines, and the whole job took two days.

Because it’s vinyl, that fence will never need staining or painting. It’s also planned around the house, not just the property line. You can see more finished fences on our projects page.

Do You Need a Fence Permit in Stafford or Spotsylvania?

Usually not, but both counties still have rules that affect Northern Virginia fence installation. In Stafford County, a fence doesn’t need a permit, but it does have height limits. The Stafford County zoning FAQ also says your fence must sit on your property and outside any easement, unless the easement holder gives written permission. You’ll also need a fence affidavit before installation.

In Spotsylvania County, the county zoning FAQ says residential fences can’t exceed 10 feet, or 4 feet in a front yard. Corner lots also face sight distance limits near intersections. Still, zoning approval isn’t required in most cases.

Inside Fredericksburg city limits, check city zoning and any HOA rules before your fence company sets a single post. Our guide to installing a fence in an HOA covers the approval steps. And our Virginia property line fence guide explains where a fence can go.

Before any digging starts, Virginia 811 asks you to contact it at least three working days ahead to avoid damaging buried utility lines. The service is free for homeowners. Sort out easements, HOA approval and corner lot limits early, too, so your Northern Virginia fencing project isn’t held up.

Fencing for Northern Virginia Businesses

Commercial properties need Northern Virginia fencing too, for security, storage areas and clear boundaries. Chain link is the usual choice for equipment yards and lots, while aluminum gives storefronts and offices a cleaner look. For example, we built a 6 foot commercial aluminum fence in Colonial Heights in two days around an active business.

Which Fence Is Right for Your Northern Virginia Home?

The right Northern Virginia fencing choice starts with the job the fence has to do. If you want privacy with little upkeep, vinyl is hard to beat. If you want a natural look for less money up front, wood works well, though it needs sealing or staining over the years.

For pools and front yards, aluminum gives you an open view without rust. And when you need to fence a big area for the least money, chain link is the practical pick. For more on pricing, see our fence installation cost guide.
